I have a combination ticket for Batavia Yard and the Nieuw Land heritage centre. Do I have to visit both on the same day?
The ticket is valid for one year. The date of purchase is on the ticket. Once purchased, the tickets cannot be exchanged for money or for tickets on another date.

Batavia Yard is partially accessible for wheelchairs. The ships cannot be visited but the workshops and other areas can. There is also a disabled toilet.

What kind of wood is used and where does it come from?
The wood that was used to build the Batavia and that is currently being used for the reconstruction of De 7 Provinciën is oak. Oak is both strong and durable, and ours comes from Denmark.

Why are we building the ships and what are we going to do with them?
Batavia Yard reconstructs 17th-century ships because the originals have perished or are lying on the bottom of the sea. It enables us to retain knowledge for future generations.

How many people worked on the Batavia?
In total, 600 young adults worked on the ship over a period of ten years, under the supervision of master shipbuilder Willem Vos.

How long did it originally take to build these ships?
These ships were originally built in about 9 months.
